Midnight Sun is a quick, action-packed romantic thriller. It kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what was going to happen. The action sequences were suspenseful – in fact, I could very easily imagine watching this story play out on film.
The main characters, Marcus and Brylie, are both stubborn and hot-tempered. He, because he’s trying to prove himself, and she because she’s been badly burned in the past. I love that the story starts as Brylie sneaks out of Marcus’ hotel room after a one-night stand. I loved it even more when they were thrown together on a ship in the middle of the southern ocean. No matter how much Brylie wants to stay away from Marcus, she can’t avoid him, especially after the ship is besieged by pirates. It’s up to Brylie and Marcus to come to the rescue, and in the process, their chemistry flares.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very easy for me to relate to Brylie, which may be why I liked it so much. Her feelings, for the most part, seemed very true to life. I found myself rolling my eyes right along with her at some of Marcus’ more ridiculous one-liners and pick-up attempts. There was much more action in this book than I expected, especially because it’s so short. While the action is the major part of the story, the developing relationship between Marcus and Brylie is threaded into each plot point. This was just a fun, quick read that kept me interested throughout. Very well done.
